Drill-and-blast excavation of tunnel’s path reaches halfway mark in significant milestone

We're halfway there! The Blackwater CSO Tunnel project reached a significant milestone on December 2, 2025, when drill-and-blast excavation of the tunnel path reached the halfway mark — clearing 2,371 feet of the 4,744 total. The project remains on schedule for July 2027 completion.

In addition to the tunnel’s underground excavation, work continues on the pump station electrical building and the combined sewer overflow point at the 7th Street construction site. Work has also expanded to the CSO 52 site along the Point of Honor Trail, where construction of the drop shaft for the future diversion structure is underway. The Point of Honor Trail, from Hollins Mill Dam to Daniel's Hill entrance, remains closed.
